The federal government granted Pennsylvania another extension to comply with its REAL ID requirements. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security authorized an extension of REAL ID enforcement through August 1, 2019. The Commonwealth is one of 16 states still not in compliance with the federal law. Noncompliance would mean major issues for people looking to enter federal buildings or travel on commercial flights. The REAL ID-compliant cards will be needed by October 2020. According to the PennDOT website, REAL ID-compliant documents will be available as an option by spring 2019.
