The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was announced today, January 11, 2024, increasing the maximum documentary fee from $449 to $464 if dealers perform on-line registrations with an online provider (such as Cox/Dealertrack) and from $374 to $387 for processing titlework manually.

The increase is effective immediately.

Each year, the documentary fee will continue to be adjusted annually in accordance with the Consumer Price Index.

The documentary fee:

The documentary fee is not a mandatory charge and will continue to be a negotiable item on the vehicle buyer’s order.

If a dealership’s documentary fee exceeds the permissible charge, the Attorney General’s Office may consider it to be deceptive as to what services are being performed and may find it subject to enforcement action.
