Dealer & Salesperson License Renewal Required

Dealers and salespersons must renew their licenses online by May 31, 2025. The Department of State sent notifications in late March to the email address on file.

Renewals can be obtained online at pals.pa.gov.

Employing dealerships must renew their dealer license prior to vehicle salespersons renewing.

Dealerships cannot renew individual sales licenses. The salesperson must renew through their own
account.

Salespersons can submit their renewal applications before the dealership completes its renewal; but, the salesperson renewal application will show a status of “Awaiting Prerequisite Renewal” until the dealership license renewal is completed. The salesperson license will continue to show the 2025 expiration date until then.

Once the dealer license renewal is completed, within 24 hours the salesperson license renewal will autocomplete.
At that point, the 2027 expiration date will appear on the salesperson license.

Of course, if the dealership fails to renew before midnight on May 31, 2025, then the dealer license will expire – and so will the salesperson license, even though the salesperson paid the renewal fee.

Please note that a “Saved” renewal application is not completed. Click on “Continue” and the “Add to Cart." The application is only submitted after you have completed the payment process. Paper licenses will arrive in the mail in approximately 7-10 business days. Employers can verify the status of the license at https://www.pals.pa.gov/#/page/search.

Fines may be assessed on each vehicle sold by an unlicensed dealer or salesperson. Until the dealership renews, the sales licenses will not renew.
