Gilbert and his wife Ann owned and operated Drummer Boy Camping Resort in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, from 1990 until their retirement in 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; daughter Suzanne and her husband David Gonick; son Peter and his wife Megan Gilbert; grandchildren Sarah Gonick, Lillian, Devin and Madeleine Gilbert, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Spirit of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, 11 a.m., at Trinity United Church of Christ, 60 East High Street, Gettysburg, Pa. with an on-site reception following the service.
