Treasury Department Ends Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Requirements

On August 11, 2026, the United States Department of the Treasury announced that it has permanently removed beneficial ownership reporting requirements for U.S. companies and persons under the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA).
These rules are administered through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau within Treasury.
Under the CTA rules, separate corporations or limited liability companies associated with a dealership (e.g., real estate holding companies) may have been required to file corporate transparency reports with beneficial ownership information.
Beneficial ownership information is identifying information about the individuals who directly or indirectly own or control a company.
Treasury also announced that it will delete any previously reported information concerning U.S. companies and persons.
Foreign entities that are reporting companies must still report beneficial ownership information for foreign individuals.
